Death of Mrs. Ethel C. Etheridge

On the beautiful morning of April 2, 2025, God called one of His earthly angels and took our beloved sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her heavenly home.

Mrs. Etheridge was 72 years old.

Her welcoming committee in Heaven were her parents, Bessie and Leonard Kennedy, her father, Russell Shoulars, and her husband, Rev. Donald L. Etheridge.

She left behind to cherish her memories three sons; Ed Marshall, and his wife Stacy, Tom Marshall, and his wife Jamie, Nathan Etheridge and daughter Shannon Gooch, and her husband Kenny.

She also leaves behind 10 beloved grandchildren, Tony (Kaley) Marshall, Michael Marshall, Seth Gooch, Charlie Marshall, Leah Gooch, Victoria Marshall, Lily Gooch, Eli Marshall, Gabe Marshall, and Josiah Marshall, as well as 4 great-grandsons Kayden, Drake, Carson and Thomas Kennedy (expected in May 2025, whom his mema lovingly planned to call Tomken), her brother Leonard Kennedy, and his wife Rhonda, and a very special niece, Corie Kennedy.

Born on July 28, 1952, Ethel was the only child of Russell and Bessie.

She grew up in Roanoke Rapids, NC and graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School in 1970. She attended Atlantic Christian College (Barton College) in Wilson, NC.  She was a long-time employee of Halifax County working in Home, Health, and Hospice.  Ethel was a charter member of Maranatha Baptist Church where she faithfully served the Lord.

It can be truly said that she loved and prayed for her family daily, raising them in the church to know God’s word and the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

Ripened in years and fully prepared for another state of existence, she has passed on now to enjoy the reward of a life well spent on earth.

A true wife and devoted mother, no higher eulogy can be pronounced upon her. Truly the great central sun of our household has gone down.  However, we know we will gather with her again in a sweet reunion by the river where partings are unknown. Is it not a sweet consolation to know that they will meet you on the other side?

The family also wishes to thank Mae Pearson, Jessica Dickson, and Melinda Suhr.  They will always be appreciated and considered a part of the family because of the loving care and compassion they showed to Mrs. Ethel.

Ethel also loved and prayed for her church family at Maranatha Baptist Church.  She brought joy to everyone she met, making each one of them feel special. To know her was to love her. It was her desire that no one should perish without Christ.

Wrenn Funeral Home and Cremation Services are handling arrangements, where the family will meet from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, April 4, 2025.  Pastor Michael D. Little will officiate a funeral service on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at the Maranatha Baptist church on Zoo Road starting at 2:00pm.

Interment will follow at the Davis Family Cemetery in Conway, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Maranatha Baptist Church, 595 Zoo Road North, Roanoke Rapids NC 27870.
