Kathryn Saunders Landen, 76, died April 15, 2025.
Retired, she was a teacher, guidance counselor, principal, and district director in Weldon City Schools and the Roanoke Rapids Graded School District.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Adkins Merritt, III and Marci Dickerson Merritt of Roanoke Rapids; grandsons Thomas Adkins Merritt, IV of Key Largo and Douglas Saunders Merritt of Greenville; her significant other, Steve E.Greene of Henrico; her sisters-in-law Anna D. Saunders of Henrico and Maria R. “Genie” Saunders of Hartfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Lucy Head Trimm; her stepfather, Milton Edwin Trimm; her father, Miles Curtis Saunders, Sr.; and her brothers Miles Curtis Saunders, Jr. and Jack Douglas Saunders.
“Grandkaky” enjoyed spending time with friends and family around Lake Gaston.
She will be remembered for her quick wit, singing voice, and easy going personality. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed watching sports, classic sitcoms, and courtroom dramas.
There will be a private celebration of life on a future date to be determined.
The family suggests memorials be made in her name to St. Jude Children's Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
