Thelma Piner Fishel, 87, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, entered her eternal home in glory on Monday, February 4, 2019 at Liberty Commons Nursing Home.

Mrs. Fishel was born in Bynum, NC, the daughter of the late Roscoe Piner and Lilly Howard Piner.

Her only sibling, Arthur E. Piner, Sr; her husband, Davison Alexander Fishel, Sr; and a granddaughter, Leslie Alexandra Fishel preceded her in death.

She worked in textile manufacturing for over 30 years, until she began caring for children in her home and making clothing alterations.

She became a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ when she gave her heart to Christ in 1952. She was a faithful wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother.

A widow for more than 20 years, Mrs. Fishel is survived by her son, Dave of Roanoke Rapids; her daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Tony Payne of Cape Town, South Africa; her daughter-in-love, Pat Coons of Roanoke Rapids; her four granddaughters and grandsons-in-law: Amy and Rob Garland of Tampa, FL; Clare and Jesse Hoff of Chesapeake, VA; Amber and Justin Sandeford of Roanoke Rapids; and Emily and Ethan Crowley of Siem Reap, Cambodia.

The Lord gave “Grandmother “ 9 great-grandsons and 3 great-granddaughters; Jake, Noelle, Isaiah, Noah and Asher Garland; Jace, Ava, Kage and Alex Sandeford; Hudson and Shiloh Crowley; and Roman Hoff.  

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service, 507 Hwy 158 West, Roanoke Rapids, NC on Friday, February 8, 2019, from 7:00 – 8:30 pm.

The memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Victory Baptist Church, Roanoke Rapids, NC with Reverend Jeremy Kobernat officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Littleton, NC.

Memorial donations may be made to Victory Baptist Church or to Gospel Fellowship Association Missions, 1809 Wade Hampton Blvd, Greenville, SC 29609.
