Spurgeon “Leon” Wheeler, 73, of Gaston, passed away Friday, June 23, 2023, in Liberty Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. 

Mr. Wheeler was born on December 18, 1949, in Roanoke Rapids; the son of the late Illma Britton and Jessie Paul Wheeler.   He was also preceded in death by his three sisters:  Paula Dickerson, Ruby Amos, and Muriel Willis. 

Mr. Wheeler was retired from the Town of Gaston, and he was a member of Gaston First Baptist Church. 

Surviving include several nieces and nephews and other extended family members.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service with Rev. Tim Andrews officiating.
