William Wayne Shaw, 81, of Roanoke Rapids passed away Monday, January 9, 2023, at his home.
William was born May 9, 1941, in Halifax County to the late Willie Jesse Shaw and Nellie Carlisle Shaw. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Portia Hux Shaw; his sisters, Hazel Ferguson, Yvonne Lambert and Jean Moore; his brothers, Freddie Lee Shaw and Claude David Shaw.
William was a loving father, very supportive and protective and he loved his family. He was the most precious man in the world and had a big heart. William loved playing music, singing and telling stories. He loved his church and his presence commanded respect.

William is survived by his wife Judy; his children, Tammie Shaw Johnson and her husband Walter of Halifax, Freddie W. Shaw and his girlfriend Cynthia , Shane Johnson and Vivian Dickens both of Roanoke Rapids and Chad Johnson and his wife Rhonda of Candler, NC; his grandchildren, Shellie Danielle Nelson of Nashville, Elizabeth Faye Shelton of Halifax, Anna Williams of Candler, NC, Vagan and Avery Johnson of Roanoke Rapids; his great-grandchildren, Olivia Faye and Caleb William; his brother, Troy Leon Shaw and his wife Lisa of High Point, NC; his sister, Brenda Shaw Edwards and her husband Bobby of Emporia, VA and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 13, 2023, at the Roanoke Rapids Church of God with Rev. Timothy Dean officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service and other times at the home.
