Loretta Rose Jean, 73, of Roanoke Rapids, died August 1, 2022 at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.

Loretta was born in Halifax County on October 3, 1948, the daughter of Robert Raymond Rose and Pauline Waters Rose.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Angela Sykes; and a brother-in-law, Dave Clairmont.

Loretta operated her own cleaning service for a number of years.  

She was an active member of Harvest Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she taught children’s Sunday School classes and participated in various women’s organizations.  

She also liked to read and write poetry, and thoroughly enjoyed going to yard sales.

She loved her family, especially her five granddaughters. Her sisters often said that Loretta was the rock of the family.    

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Wayne Jean, Sr;  sons, Jay Jean, Scotty Jean and wife Nikki; daughter, Missy Baker and husband Jay; brothers, Robbie Rose and wife Glenda, David Rose; sisters, Lucinda Reese and husband Michael, Janice Clairmont; granddaughters, Brooke Baker, Alyssa Baker, Gabrielle Jean, Makayla Simonowich (Logan), Laney Jean; and great-granddaughter, Marley Grace Richmond.

Friends may visit with the family on Thursday afternoon from 12:30 until 1:30 pm at Harvest Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church.  The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday in the church sanctuary with Pastor Tim Bowen presiding.  Interment will be in Cedarwood Cemetery.
