Gladys B. Podruchny, RN, died on July 27, 2022, surrounded by her family at home in a suburb of Washington, D.C., from dementia.

She was born in Halifax County in December, 1932 to Blanche and Leon Boseman, and lived most of her life in the Roanoke Rapids area.

She was an amazing, brave, loyal, and impressive person, an accomplished and dedicated nurse, an extraordinary and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

She loved God. She loved, cherished, and truly appreciated her family — especially the love of her life and partner until the end, Jimmy — her church,  her friends, her church family, her work friends and colleagues, and her career choice — she nursed with passion and  excellence.

She was a longstanding, faithful member of the Roanoke Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church.  She was a shopper with a keen eye for a bargain and stylish clothes, a gardener who enjoyed her flowers, and a lover of many genres of music.

Her kindness was palpable. Her wit was impeccably timed, even in her last days.

She leaves a grieving yet grateful family.

We are grateful and so honored because we had her in our lives.

We weep for her suffering from the ravages of her dementia.

We grieve and have been grieving the loss of our beloved Gladys,  wife of 69 years to James C. Podruchny, mother to Debbie Hoover (husband Bill, deceased) and to Teresa A. Podruchny,  sister to Horace Boseman (deceased; wife Bonnie), Shervie Powell (husband Lynwood), Glenn Boseman (wife Zdenka), Opal Marsh, and Faye Hatchell (husband Bob), grandmother to Billy Hoover (wife Carrie) and Jimmy Hoover (wife Julie), great-grandmother to Maddie, William, Benjamin, and J.T., niece to Edith Gay, aunt/great aunt including to Mark Vejnar (wife Sharon), and friend to many — BFF Nola King.

The funeral service will be held at 2PM Friday, August 5th, at Roanoke Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church, with burial to follow at Crestview Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1:15 - 1:45 pm, at the church.

All are welcome, unless you have COVID — we do not want to spread COVID — to come and join us as we remember her.
