Robert Richard Sanders, Sr., 84, of Roanoke Rapids died March 12, 2022 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
Robert was born April 20, 1937 in Robeson County, NC, the son of Walter C. Sanders and Estelle Jane Sanders.

He served our county in the US Army during the Korean War. After his military service, he worked as a mechanic. Robert liked going to the river; he enjoyed fishing as well as driving and riding. He was always a jokester. Most of all, Robert loved his family.
Survivors include his wife, Diane S. Sanders; daughters, Lisa Sanders (Johnny Braswell), Heather Morgan (John), Donna Sanders, Angie Sanders (Charlie Johnson), and Barbie Sanders (Billy Strickland); sons, Robbie Sanders (Angel) and David Sanders; two brothers, Allan Sanders (Faye) and Steve Sanders; 16 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mae Fields; brother, Walter Sanders; and sister-in-law, Betty Sanders.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Wednesday evening at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service. The funeral service for Mr. Robert Sanders will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, March 17, 2022 in the funeral home chapel, with interment to follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.
