Joe Huss joined the Army at the young age of 17. He served our country during a time of peace and was honored to serve.

He received a Mechanical Engineering Degree and then specialized in Auto Mechanics as his passion.

He used this talent to become the Auto Mechanics Shop teacher at Northwest High School from 1970-1977.

With his handsome looks, witty charming personality, bigger than life smile and beautiful baby blue eyes, Northwest High School had the highest enrollment of students for that class in history, which sparked an energy that is still spoken about among the students and staff today. They dedicated an all girls class in 1973 because they had such a high enrollment of females in that class.

We are not sure if the girls wanted to learn auto mechanics or just stare at Handsome Blue-eyed Joe. But for whatever the reason, he was glad to teach all the young folks his passion.

Then Joe Huss became an independent long distance truck driver for over 40 years and enjoyed seeing the world through the windshield of his 18 wheeler truck, which gave him the freedom to be home every weekend so he could be at the Race Car Shop and work on HIS TRUE PASSION, RACING. If you wanted to see Joe Huss light up, talk about racing. He loved it all. Joe Huss never met a stranger and would light up any room he walked into. His energy for life was contagious.

Joe was preceded in death by his daughter Pamela Faith Huss of Roanoke Rapids, NC, his brother James “Buddy” Huss of Lincolnton, NC and his sister Helen Huss Walker of Lawndale, NC.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen Huss, and his children, Joe Dean Huss, Jr aka JoeBug, Johannah Faith Huss, Jodeana Huss King and her spouse Mark Allen King, all of Roanoke Rapids, NC and his grandchildren LoganAnn King Salisbury and spouse , Kyle Taylor King, and spouse Kristen, his brothers Carroll Huss and his wife Ruthell, Lewis Huss and his wife Barbara and David Huss and his wife Sandy and dozens of nieces and nephews. What a beautiful family he has left behind.. What a beautiful family he has left behind.

The Home-going celebration service will be held on Friday, June 18th 2021 at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, 115 E 9th Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870 at 11:00 am with Father Pius Wekesa officiating. The visitation will be held at Hockaday Funeral Home, 507 Hwy 158, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870 Thursday, June 17, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Flowers and gifts can be sent to Hockaday Funeral Home.

The family would like to say thank you in advance for your love, compassion and prayers before, during and after this time of transition for us all. God bless us all with His Love, Comfort and Peace as we care for each other in times like these.
