It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected and sudden passing of Jason Miles Bone on Monday, May 25, 2026.
He was 63 years old and was deeply loved by his family, friends, colleagues and students.
Jason graduated from Sanderson High School in Raleigh in 1981 before enlisting in the US Navy where he was schooled to become an electronics technician. His electronics education from the Navy allowed him the opportunity to become a college instructor at Halifax Community College (HCC) while pursuing dual associate degrees which he ultimately obtained.
Jason leveraged this background resulting in a 37-year career with the college as its Industrial Systems Technology Instructor and, eventually, its Program Chair.

Jason was first and foremost a teacher. Halifax Community College eulogized “his dedication, leadership and commitment to student success…lasting impact on countless lives…passion for education…and the care he showed for those around him.”
Furthermore, Jason was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award at HCC and, in turn, was selected as a top five finalist among faculty members from all 58 North Carolina community colleges in 2024.
He was highly sought after by area industries to provide Customized Training for their employees because companies specifically requested him as an instructor. Jason played a major role in securing grants and equipment donations to the Industrial Systems program at the college and was instrumental in the design and development of the state-of-the-art Industrial Systems classrooms and laboratories within the Advanced Manufacturing and Training Center at HCC. Jason also worked closely with the Center for Energy Education and was instrumental in advancing solar energy training opportunities in Halifax County.
Jason lived life vibrantly. He was fond of cave diving as well as trail biking, especially with his nephew Dawson. As a proficient guitar player, he played in bands with friends and taught guitar to others. Jason enjoyed portrait photography, screen printing, making educational videos and even leveraged his electronics skills to make guitar pedals. He was also a devoted dog lover.
Jason was born in Rocky Mount on March 12, 1963, to Ronace Joyner Bone and the late William Raybon Bone. In addition to his mother, Jason is survived by his brother Wynn Bone, his sister Tammera Haskins (Kevin), his niece Holli Parks (Zoe Sparrow) and his nephew Dawson Parks.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the Griffin Centre at Halifax Community College with Reverend Gary Parks officiating. The family will receive friends and family immediately after the service.
