Lottie Louise Banty Poythress, 86, died Thursday, January 9, 2020 at her residence in Valentines, VA.

Born August 29, 1933 in Halifax Co., NC, she was a daughter of Jesse Claude and Lottie Gertrude Johnson Banty, both of whom preceded her in death.  

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles Thomas Poythress; son, Charles Wesley Poythress; grandson, Wesley Adam Poythress; brothers, Rudolph, Thomas and Freeman Banty; and sisters, Elizabeth Poythress and Mabel Godsey.

Louise loved gardening; she also enjoyed playing cards and Yahtzee.  She retired from the textiles industry, and was a member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Roberta Poythress of Valentines, and Wilber and Carolyn Poythress of Broadnax; brother, Jesse Banty; grandchildren, Crystal Elder (Paul), Christopher Poythress (Jasmine); special granddaughter, Rose Mary Jones; and great grandson, Zach Elder. 

The family will receive friends from 3 – 5 pm Sunday at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service.

The funeral will be held at 1:00 pm Monday from the graveside at Old Pleasant Hill Christian Church Cemetery.
