Mr. John Odis Acrey, Jr., 68, of Roanoke Rapids died Tuesday, December 24, 2013.
Mr. Acrey was born November 14, 1945 in Halifax County to the late John Odis Acrey, Sr. and “Dot” Medlin Acrey Rowbottom.
Mr. Acrey served in the Army National Guard, and was a supervisor with Pepsi Cola. He also worked a number of years with Roanoke Valley Ice Company. In addition to his parents, Mr. Acrey was preceded in death by two brothers James Acrey, who died at an early age, and Raymond Earl Acrey.
Mr. Acrey is survived by his daughter Donna Long and husband Ralph of Roanoke Rapids; two brothers, Stephen Wayne Acrey of Roanoke Rapids, and Forrest Dennis Acrey of New Orleans; two sisters, Patricia Acrey Dessommes also of New Orleans, and Darlene Acrey Cox of Roanoke Rapids. Three grandchildren Jessica Hanson, Joshua Hanson, and Jenna Hanson; three great-grandchildren Brantly Jenkins, Jase Jenkins, and Khloe Mabb, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Saturday, January 4th, 2014 at 5:30 PM in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service with Rev. Jim Cox, officiating.
The family will received friends from 4:00 to 5:30 prior to the service.
