Mary Ellen Adkins Nance, 89, passed away at her residence on Heathsville Rd, Saturday, April 27, 2013.

Mrs. Nance was born in Halifax County, January 19, 1924, to the late William David Adkins and Bernice Green Nance.  She was a beloved housewife, as well as, maintained the farm’s accounts and operations throughout the years.  She had a passion for flowers which was evident in her beautiful flower gardens surrounding her home, and was a long time member of Rocky Swamp Primitive Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Morris Nance. 

Surviving are her two sons, John W. Nance and wife, Kyong Nan (deceased), of Littleton, and William Bahnson Nance and wife, Maxine, of Roanoke Rapids; one daughter, Judy Cannon and husband, Charles, of Littleton; four grandchildren, John W. Nance, Jr., Sean M. Nance, William D. Nance, and Stephanie Danielle Cannon.  Also surviving are six great-grandchildren, Matthew Nance, Bishop Nance, Remley Nance, Shotaro Nance, Dyllon Nance, and Akisa Nance.

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service, who is handling arrangements, from 11-12:30 pm, Wednesday, May 1, 2013.  A graveside service will follow at Rocky Swamp Primitive Baptist Church at 1:00 pm.  Elder Harold Pittman will officiate.
