Bessie Mae Davis Hardy, 89, of Stuart, Va. and formerly of Roanoke Rapids, died Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart.  Mrs. Hardy was born May 30, 1923 in McDowell County, NC to the late Clyde and Ruby Parker Davis.  Mrs. Hardy loved her flowers, her garden, going to church and going on rides.  She also loved her grandchildren.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Marland Perry Hardy; a son Sammy Hardy; and three sisters Francis, Dorothy, and Emma.

Mrs. Hardy is survived by her sons; Marland Perry Hardy, Jr. and wife Agnes; David Hardy and wife Sue all of Stuart, Va.; and Larry Hardy and wife Vicki of Roanoke Rapids; Two daughters; Peggy Sue Shipp and husband Mike of Roanoke Rapids; and Lisa Hardy of Hampton Falls, New Hampshire; her brother Robert Davis of Richmond, Va.; her sisters Ruby Newsome and husband Herman of Littleton, Evelyn Shaffer and Helen Gathwright of Roanoke Rapids, NC; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 2:30 PM at Cedarwood Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Marshall officiating.  The family received friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the service at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service.
