Betty Long Walker, 77, died at her residence on Redman Rd. in Rocky Mount, Thursday, June 28, 2012.
Betty was born in Chester, SC November 1, 1934 to the late James Shirley and Jean Sterling Shirley. She retired with JP Stevens as a weaver; she attended Faith Family PH Church in Rocky Mount and was sweet and loving to all she met. When she wasn’t enjoying her beautiful flowers, she could always be found working on her “Seek-a-Word” puzzles. In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Long; her sister, Emily Sloan, and her son, Robert Glynn Long.
Surviving are two sons, Steve Long and wife, Teresa of Roanoke Rapids, and Jerry Long of California; her daughter-n-law, Carrie Long of Rocky Mount and two sisters, Frances Brannon and husband Ronnie, of Alabama, and Jimmie Mabe and husband, Russell, of South Carolina. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service, who is handling arrangements, Saturday, June 30, 2012 from 7-8:30.
Rev. Gerald Parker will conduct a graveside service in Cedarwood Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids, Sunday, July 1, 2012 at 3:00.
