John Henry “Gun-Gun” Shelton, 49, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

John was born July 20, 1962 to John Douglas Shelton and Peggy Mitchell Porch.  He was a true outdoorsman and loved fishing and hunting and was an avid dirt track racing fan.  Most of all, he loved his daughter Elizabeth and niece, Shellie.  John was a supervisor in the treating division for Coastal Treated Products, formerly Coastal Lumber Company, where he worked for 24 years.  Preceding John in death was a special uncle, Franklin D. “Boo-Boo” Mitchell.

Surviving is his wife of 29 years, Tammie S. Shelton and his daughter, Elizabeth Shelton, both of the home; his parents, John Douglas Shelton of Seaboard and Peggy Mitchell Porch of Roanoke Rapids.  Also surviving is a half-brother, Jonathon Walker and wife, Phyllis of Virginia.

The family will receive friends, Thursday, May 10th at the funeral home from 7-8:30 pm.

Funeral services will be held at Roanoke Rapids Church of God Friday, May 11th starting at 2:00 pm with Rev. Michael Mooneyham officiating.  Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids.
