Frances Woodard Barnes, 80, of Bradley St. in Halifax died Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at her home.

She was born in Wilson County on February 2, 1939, the daughter of John Sidney and Gaynell Renfrow Woodard.  

Mrs. Barnes was the widow of Wiley Rexford Barnes.  

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Jimmy and Lanier Woodard; and a grandson, Blake Barnes.

Mrs. Barnes was a graduate of Lucama High School, and was retired from Halifax Supermarket after over 40 years of service.  She loved her grandchildren, flowers, watching Carolina basketball and cooking Sunday dinner for her family. She was a member of Quankie Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Rex and Melissa Barnes; Ricky and Bonnie Barnes; daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Scott Hall, all of Roanoke Rapids; sisters, Sarah Nell Skinner of Wilson, and Marguerite Creech of Clayton; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and one on the way.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm Wednesday at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service.   

The funeral service for Mrs. Barnes will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday in the funeral home chapel, with Dr. Lavelle Waters presiding.  Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.
