Sheila Doty Dilmore, 76, went to be with the Lord on June 15, 2019, after a courageous 5-year battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was Born 7/29/42 to Richard Evans Doty and Jeanne Louise Zinn Doty, and was raised by Clarence and Veronica “Bonnie” Bercher.

Sheila graduated from Southside High School, in Elmira, NY in 1960, and then worked for New York Telephone for 23 years, starting in 1960, as an Operator, before moving on to the Business Office in Elmira and then Sales in Newark, NY.

After her retirement, she worked for the Phelps-Clifton Springs School District, as a cafeteria employee.

She made many wonderful friendships before leaving in 1990. She was affectionately known as Mrs. D or just “Mom,” because every student knew she loved them as her own.

On 8/23/1969 she wed her best friend and soulmate, Robert Theodore Dilmore. Theirs was a love like no other.

Sheila was an active member of the American Legion Post 1612 (Big Flats, NY) Ladies’ Auxiliary. She was also an active member of the Telecom Pioneers, a group of retirees that volunteered for various educational programs throughout the Southern Tier of NY as well as at the Bath, NY VA Center. She was also inducted into the Telcom Pioneers Hall of Fame. She and her husband made the Adirondack Mountains in Central NY, their second home, from 1986 until his passing in 2014. They spent much time at their “Camp,” enjoying the peace and quiet of the mountains, shopping, exploring and relaxing with friends. Sheila spent a number of years as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Limekiln Lake Association.

She she was best known for her smile, laughter and her love for her family and friends. Sheila didn’t know a stranger. She loved helping people and taking care of those in need. Often times, holiday meals would be shared with someone who didn’t have a family to sit with. Her kitchen was always open, as was her heart. She loved her husband, children and grandchildren more than life itself. And if you were lucky enough to call her a friend, you were lucky enough.

She moved to NC in 2016 with her daughter, son-in-law and grandson. She began attending Valley Community Church with her family. She loved her weekly outings to see friends, worship and hear the Word.

Survivors include her children: Danny Keith Dilmore,  Garry Theodore (Wil Robertson) Dilmore and Jennifer Erin (David) Hardy; two grandchildren: Catherine “Cady” Suzanne (Matt) Boughtin and John Gordon Benton; a great-grandson: Ford Matthew Boughtin; siblings Michael (Wendy) Fahl, Thomas (Sherry) Fahl, Robert Demyan, Karen (James) Tanner, Stephanie Marshall, Richard Doty, Jamie Doty, Claire “Terry” Reed, Teresa Mellon, Clarence “Butch” (Frankie) Bercher, and Barbara (Mark) Johnston.

She also leaves dozens of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, whom she loved dearly.
