Robert Mullen Gowen of Halifax, NC died September 18, 2024.  

Born July 6, 1943, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Howerton Gowen of Roanoke Rapids, NC.  Bob graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School and High Point College, followed by service in the United States Coast Guard. 

He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Chockoyotte Country Club, and the National Wild Turkey Federation. 

Bob served as president of Gowen Oil Company and founded Hoots Belt Company.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents Mr. & Mrs. Howerton Gowen (Priscilla) of Roanoke Rapids, NC.  

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Vaughan Gowen of Halifax, NC, son Robert Mullen Gowen, Jr (Angela) of Littleton, NC, daughter Sally Gowen Stander (Jeremy) of Chapel Hill, NC, son Clinton Vaughan Gowen (Anne Burnley) of Lynchburg, VA, grandchildren Jackson (Laurel) and Ellen Gowen, Liam and Henry Stander, and Sally Marshall and Hattie Gowen.  He is also survived by a brother Howerton Gowen (Patricia) of Lynchburg, VA, and a twin sister Priscilla Gowen Graybeal of Lynchburg, VA. 

A celebration of Daddy Bob’s life will be held at 10:30 on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church followed by a reception in St. Mark’s Parish House in Halifax, NC.
