She was born in Pitt County, North Carolina in 1934 and was one of seven children. 

She married Lathan Hedgepeth in 1954 and followed him to a few states because Lathan was in the Army. 

They later settled in Virginia and adopted two children in 1962 and 1965. She was always on the go, with somewhere to be and someone or something to see. 

She would travel to her second home in Daytona Beach, Florida on a regular basis, as well as to her family’s property in Roanoke Rapids, NC. 

Peggy is predeceased by her parents; Edna & Charles Lee, husband; Lathan Hedgepeth, siblings; JW Lee, Ellen Wells, Edna Earle Myers, Jackie Schultz, brothers and sisters-in-law; Ethel Lee, Charles Myers, Gene Schultz, Bealuah Dickens, Lois Hux, Roger Hedgepeth, Ray Hegdepeth, John Hedgepeth, Rupert Hedgepeth, Dorothy Matthews, Lillian Ball, and nephews; Rocky Wells & Forrest Lee.

She was a school bus driver, bookkeeper at the VA Museum of Fine Arts, bank teller, realtor, lead secretary to many delegates in the Virginia General Assembly, member of Shalom Baptist Church, Mechanicsville, VA, high school basketball player, member of her bowling league for over 25 years and was asked to go pro but chose not to. She loved gambling and playing cards. She traveled all 50 states, Europe and Italy by train with her sister-in-law Lillian. On one of her many trips she once met Tom Selleck on the beaches of Hawaii before he booked his gig on Magnum P.I., and later shared correspondence with him because of it. She was also a Sunday school teacher and a deacon.

She is survived by her loving children; Doug, his wife Missy Hedgepeth and Nancy “Toni” Lee;

cherished grandchildren; Jennifer Rafuse and Norman Cottrell; siblings; Charles Lee and Larry Lee, sister-in-law, Peggy Bishop and brother-in-law, Mike Hedgepeth, Nieces; Terry Wade, Penny Lee, Cynthia “Bobbie” Lee, Denise Myers, Susan Wade, Lynne Smith, Farrah Owen, Kristi Wheeler, Nephews Bill Lee, Chuck Myers, Lee Wells, Christopher Lee, Travis Lee and countless grand nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina on Monday, June 12, 2023 at 11:00 am.

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 12, 2023 from 10:00 am until service time at Askew Funeral & Cremation Services.
