Earl L. Smith, Jr died Friday August 20, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Eastabuchie, MS on August 20, 1929 to the Late Earl L. Smith, Sr and Mildred Sellers Smith. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Smith McCardle and his brother, Jerry Smith.

He served on the city council in Weldon and won the lifetime Achievement award for the ABMA. His book was just released on Amazon. It is called Blame it on Billy.

He is survived by Daniela Smith; his five daughters, Shelley Lyons Vandyke and her husband, Paul of Amity, OR, Liana Smith McLaughlin of Weldon, Evy Smith Curl and her husband, Michael of Vancouver, WA, Ettina Smith Jordan and her husband, Jamie (her mother Patricia Smith Slovacek) of Jesup, Ga, Lynn Smith Ivey of Brooklet, Ga and a stepdaughter, Alexandra Vanek and her sons, Misha and Manou Aymar of France; twelve grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; his brother, Gaines S. Smith and his wife, Gaye of Jacksonville, Fl, brother-in-law T.W. McCardle of Birmingham, Al; special friends, Howard and Debbie Wasdin Fernandina, Fl, Phillip H. Myers of Virginia Beach, Va, Charles Wyatt of Poway, CA and Donna Dodson of Mebane, NC, Bruce Robistow and his wife Kathy of Roanoke Rapids and many friends from his A.B. (Navy) family.

There will be a service on Sunday August 22, 2021 at 5 pm in the chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids.
