Myra Joy Evans Keeter, 89, of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2021 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina.

She was born in Vance County on August 13, 1931 to the late Frank Howard and Zelma Asycue Evans.

Myra retired from Blackwell Tire after 28 years and was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.

A graduate of Henderson High School, Myra enjoyed a long and successful career from her teens until 2019 working as a bookkeeper and office manager for a number of organizations and attorneys, most recently Swain Stephenson.

Her work ethic was definitely admirable as she typically and successfully handled multiple employment positions.

She was admired for the lovely home she created as she decorated for all of the seasons. Decorating her home was reflected in her interest in antiques and beautiful objects.

Christmas was an especially lovely time in her home with many decorations and themed Christmas trees in every room.

In fact, her home was chosen to be on Roanoke Rapids Christmas Walk because of its beautiful decor.

Holidays were a special time as friends and family gathered to enjoy her cooking and hospitality. Sitting on her porch “veranda” was also a beloved gathering place for friends and family. Gardening was another interest, and her home and yard were reflections of this passion.

Myra Keeter was a good friend and a special family member.

One example of how she demonstrated her love of family was evident in how she drove regularly from Roanoke Rapids to Henderson to visit her aunt who was in a nursing home for 12 years.

Myra was grateful for how her friends helped her in so many ways and frequently expressed thankfulness for Danny, Angela, Cynthia, and Rip.

Her family is also grateful to them for helping Myra, especially in the past year as she experienced health issues for the first time.

She is survived by her son, William Keeter and Sherri of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; her sister, Gulie Hogner of Mosto, California; and her brother, Frank Evans of Diberville, Mississippi.

Memorial Services will be held on Monday, May 17, 2021 at 11 am at All Saints Episcopal Church in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina with Rev. Sonny Brown officiating.
