Hazel Gray Lassiter Collier 93, of Conway died Saturday December 19, 2020.
A native of Northampton County she was the daughter of the late Herbert Glenn and Dorcas Lassiter.
She is also preceded in death by her Husband Garland Lee Collier, her sister Jean Lassiter Capps and her husband Claude, Sister-in-law Janet Collier Outland and her husband Roger.
Hazel was a 1945 graduate of Louisburg College. She worked for 35 years at the Northampton County Department of Social Services, receiving the Order of the Long Leaf Pine from the North Carolina Governor’s office upon her retirement.
She went on to be appointed to serve on the Northampton County Department of Social Services Board for many years.
She Served as Treasurer of the Northampton County Methodist charge for 23 years, served as delegate to the North Carolina Methodist Conference for 33 years, served as North Carolina Methodist Conference Registrar for 29 years, served on the Board of Directors for Pine Forest Rest Home, and served as President of the Pine Forest Rest Home Auxiliary Organization for many years.
She was a strong Christian woman who lived out her faith in everything she did. She lived life to the fullest and enjoyed doing many things for her family, friends and neighbors. She poured her love into her husband, children, grandchildren, and step great-grandchildren.
She loved tending to her garden, growing many types of vegetables and rows of beautiful flowers, which she used to make flower arrangements for church each Sunday.
She was an avid reader, relished opportunities to travel, and it pleased her to cook good food for friends, family, church and community groups and organizations.
She was a vital part of her community and brought people together for food. She was beautiful inside and out and lived by the golden rule.
She will live on in the many lives that she impacted.
She was a member of Jackson United Methodist Church and was a long time member of New Hope United Methodist before its closed. She was retired from the Northampton County Department of Social Services.
She is survived by her daughter, Gail C. Wade and her husband Lee of Conway; her son, Richard Glenn Collier and his wife Vickie of Enfield; two grandchildren Adam Lee Wade and his husband Matthew Lenz of Raleigh and Brittany Wade Peele and her husband Tripp of Willow Springs; step grandchildren Matthew Meyers and his wife Jen and their daughter Eislee Meyers of Ahoskie, Melinda Meyers and her fiancé Chad Simmons and son Mason Palazzolo of Ahoskie
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday December 23, 2020 at 11 am at the Jackson United Methodist Church with Rev. John Taylor officiating.
Interment will follow in the Lasker Cemetery in Lasker.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-7:30 at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services-Jackson Chapel.
