Ladd Walter O’Brien, 71, of Littleton, North Carolina, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011.  He was born March 13, 1940, in Muncie, Indiana to the late James and Mary E. O’Brien.  He lived in Port Charlotte, Florida for over 32 years before moving to Littleton in 2001.

Ladd was a barber for over 50 years and was owner of Tall Tales Barber Shop in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.  He was also an accomplished woodcarver and had earned a myriad of awards for his beautiful creations.

Survivors include his wife, Leah Crosby O’Brien of Littleton; his daughter, Lori O’Brien Jones and her husband, Johnny; his grandson, Luke Lucas, all of Littleton; three sisters, Nancy Brooks, and her husband, Kenneth, of Greenfield, Indiana, Janet Eckstein of Gas City, Indiana, and Mary Lea Coan of Marion, Indiana; two brothers, Gary McNutt and Terry McNutt of Gas City, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 18,  at 2:00 p.m. at Littleton United Methodist Church  with Rev. Robert Licht officiating.  The service will be followed by a reception in the church fellowship hall.
