Sheila Kay Whitby Godfrey, 74, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 24, 2025 surrounded by her family.

Sheila was born on March 24, 1950 as the oldest daughter of the late Telton and Lucille Whitby. She was preceded in death by her grandson, James Ryan Outland.

She was a 1968 graduate of Weldon High School and a loyal and dedicated employee of Patch Rubber for many years. She was a Christian, a loving wife, and an amazing mother and grandmother. She loved her family and was the glue that held us all together.

She was the sweetest, most vivacious woman with a beautiful smile. Dancing was her favorite thing to do, especially shagging to beach music. Her favorite song was “Lady Soul” by The Temptations.

Sheila is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Ray Godfrey; brothers, Bobby Whitby (Emma) and Freddy Whitby; daughter, Jessica Neathery (Cliff); son, Travis Godfrey (Caren); granddaughters, Madelyn Godfrey and Alyssa Outland; grandsons, Logan Neathery and Connor Godfrey; loving granddogs, Moxie, Augie, and Sunny.

A celebration of life will be held at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at 5:30 PM with Pastor Daniel West officiating. The family will receive friends and family immediately following the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dementia Alliance of North Carolina.
