A Holly Springs man Saturday was charged with trafficking and possession of 99 grams of cocaine and $15,780 in cash was seized after he was stopped in Enfield following a license plate check.

Major Anzell Harris of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Akeem Juwon Khalil Dear, 27, faces three counts of felony trafficking in cocaine, felony possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, felony possession of cocaine, felony maintain a vehicle for a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia

Around 4 p.m. Deputy J. Velez was conducting traffic enforcement in the Enfield area when he observed a vehicle and checked the plate. The registered owner had an inactive driver’s license.

Velez conducted a traffic stop on Highway 481 near Woodridge Road just outside the town limits of Enfield. 

The odor of marijuana was coming from inside the vehicle and Velez learned Dear was not the registered owner.

Dear received a $50,000 bond and January 23 district court date.
