The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Shane Guyant:
DWI after chase
On Tuesday around 1:30 a.m., Officer M. Morris observed a vehicle traveling west on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway with no headlamps.
Morris attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver, later identified as Cheyenne Maria Everett, accelerated to a high rate of speed.
During the vehicle pursuit the 20-year-old Seaboard woman ran through several stop signs and red lights.
She traveled in excess of 100 miles per hour during portions of the pursuit and passed vehicles in a reckless manner that endangered others on the roadway. Guyant said Everett almost struck several patrol vehicles.
Officers eventually boxed the woman in on a dead-end street and took her into custody.
While placing her under arrest officers detected the very strong odor of alcohol coming from her breath.
Morris transported Everett to the police department where she refused an Intoxilyzer test.
Morris applied for and was granted a search warrant for Everett’s blood. The search warrant was executed using medical personnel and she was taken before a magistrate who charged with the following:
Felony flee to elude arrest
Fail to heed light or sirens
Reckless driving to endanger
Resisting a public officer
DWI
Driving after consuming under 21
Simple possession of a schedule VI controlled substance
Possession of marijuana paraphernalia
No operators license
Fail to burn headlamps
Driving left of center
Improper passing on the right
Exceeding posted speed
Fail to stop for a steady red light
Fail to stop for stop sign
Fail to wear seatbelt
Everett received a $5,000 bond and has a November 8 district court date.
Glass door broken at RRPD
On Monday around 11 p.m. Officer B. Johnson was stationary in the median of Highway 158 near Tenth Street running radar.
Johnson clocked a vehicle driven by a man identified as Carlos F. Mitchell, 40, traveling 50 in a 35 zone.
Johnson stopped the Roanoke Rapids man in a parking lot near Old Farm Road and Highway 158.
Johnson smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from within the vehicle and from Mitchell’s breath.
Lieutenant D. Jenkins and Officer C. Walker assisted. Mitchell performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was arrested for DWI.
At the police department, where an Intoxilyzer test was to be administered, Mitchell pulled away from Johnson, who had to forcefully subdue him.
During the process of trying to resist Mitchell broke a glass entrance door.
Mitchell registered a .17 on the instrument and was charged with DWI, driving with an open container after consuming, injury to personal property, and resisting a public officer.
He received a $500 bond and December 13 district court date.
Fight call
On Sunday around 2 a.m. officers were dispatched to a fight call in the area of Tenth Street and Park Avenue.
The call said a woman was lying on the ground unconscious.
Johnson and Officer S. Pate found the woman lying on the sidewalk bleeding from her head. Johnson learned that the victim’s boyfriend — Jeffrey Allen White, 50 of Weldon —had left the scene intoxicated.
White returned while the woman was being treated and told officers that other women had assaulted his girlfriend.
Johnson noticed a very strong odor of alcohol coming from White’s breath. White admitted he had been drinking and became agitated with the request for field sobriety testing but complied. He performed poorly.
At the police department White provided a positive sample of .14.
He was charged with DWI and no operator’s license.
There were no assault charges filed because the woman did not cooperate with law enforcement.
He received a $1,000 bond and December 13 district court date.
