A Roanoke Rapids man with a pending court date for cocaine trafficking was charged early this morning in a domestic assault in which the victim was knocked unconscious, according to city police Chief Shane Guyant.

Police were called to Forest Hills Shopping Center off East Tenth Street for a fight in progress.

Master Officer C. Majette, Officer P. Dueitt, and Lieutenant M. Hunsucker along with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office B-Squad responded around 2 a.m.

Information from 911 calls advised that an affray was actively taking place and that there was a mention of a firearm being fired in the parking lot area.

Majette arrived first on scene and quickly took Darius Jajuan Robertson, 33, into custody.

He was charged with assault inflicting serious injury, assault on a female and misdemeanor domestic violence.

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department is still investigating to determine those involved with the shots fired.

He was jailed without the opportunity for bond and has a September 6 district court date for the charges this morning and a September 23 superior court date for a cocaine trafficking offense.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Roanoke Rapids Police Department at 252-533-2810, or anonymously at Halifax County Crimestoppers at its website or by calling 252-583-4444.

There have been no other reports of injuries or damage to property and there is no threat to the public safety, Guyant said.
