The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following drug arrests, according to Major Anzell M. Harris:

Highway 158 at Zoo Road

Sergeant D. Harrison was patrolling the area of Highway 158 near Zoo Road Friday when he noticed the driver of a vehicle identified as David Berwick not wearing his seat.

Harrison conducted a traffic stop and learned Berwick’s driver’s license was suspended. Harrison noticed a marijuana blunt on the floorboard. 

During a search of the vehicle Harrison located a silver can containing methamphetamine behind the center console.

Berwick was arrested and charged with possession of schedule II controlled substance, simple possession of marijuana, driving while license revoked, expired registration number plate and the seat belt violation.

Berwick has an August 29 district court date.

The weight of the meth seized was approximately 11.7 grams. 

Morgan Drive

On Thursday shortly after 11 p.m. deputies responded to a residence on Morgan Drive for a 911 open line.

On scene deputies located Christopher Wayne Love, 34, of Wilmington sitting in a vehicle in the front yard of the residence. 

Speaking with Love deputies noticed what appeared to be drug paraphernalia on the front seat.

A search of the vehicle was conducted and a piece of folded paper containing a white powder substance was found under the passenger seat.  

A warrant check revealed that Love had an outstanding order for arrest.

Love was arrested and charged by Sergeant P. Rackley for possession of cocaine and served with the outstanding order for arrest.

He has a Tuesday district court date.

Highway 301

On Wednesday at approximately 11 a.m. Deputy G.Q. Martin was conducting speed enforcement in the 4000 block of Highway 301. 

Martin, using radar, observed a vehicle traveling 69 mph in a 55 mph zone.

Martin initiated a vehicle stop and spoke with the driver, Jeffery Brown of Gaston and a passenger, Shonta Mangrum of Emporia. 

Martin could smell the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Martin had Brown and Mangrum exit the vehicle to perform a search. 

Martin observed the passenger return briefly to the vehicle. She grabbed a clear container and stuffed it down her pants. 

The container was seized. It contained powder and crack cocaine. marijuana and was seized. 

Brown was arrested and charged with felony possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana up to one-half ounce, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, speeding and driving while license revoked.

Mangrum was arrested and charged with felony possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana up to one-half ounce and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

Brown and Mangrum have August 29 district court dates.
