The state Department of Transportation has announced the launch of its Transportation Apprenticeship Program, or TAP+.

The program is designed to develop a skilled workforce for the future of transportation in North Carolina.

“TAP+ addresses the critical need for skilled talent, ensuring a robust workforce for the future,” said NCDOT Human Resources Director Amanda Olive. “By investing in apprentices, NCDOT is building a pipeline of qualified employees who are passionate about transportation.”

The first round of recruitment will focus on engineering technician apprentices, who will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of projects such as design, construction, bridge work, erosion control, aviation, rail, integrated mobility and maritime.

NCDOT is partnering with North Carolina’s community colleges to produce TAP+, which will provide hands-on training and career opportunities for aspiring engineering technicians.

Apprentices will gain experience in various transportation-related fields.

TAP+ is committed to creating pathways for individuals from all backgrounds, including those traditionally underrepresented in the transportation industry.

Participants will gain in-depth knowledge of the transportation industry, earn competitive wages and benefits, and have the opportunity to advance their careers within NCDOT.

These roles are essential to the success of NCDOT projects, from design to construction.
