A Scotland Neck man was charged in a sexual assault of a minor Sunday, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Phillip Scott Keanum, 18, was charged with statutory rape of a child less than 15-years-old.

The charges stem from a call to the Scotland Neck area in which the sexual assault of a minor was reported. Deputy K. Taylor and Lieutenant D. Newsome responded, Captain Scott Hall said.

Further investigation by Detective T. Byers led to a warrant filed against Keanum.

Byers, Deputy C. Joseph and Lieutenant T. Clark arrested Keanum without trouble at his residence.

He remains in the Halifax County Detention Center without the opportunity for bond.

A Thursday district court date is scheduled.
