The Northampton County Sheriff’s Office along with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation will be assisting the Gaston Police Department in what Captain Patrick Jacobs said is a homicide investigation.

Jacobs said this morning shortly after 7:15 the body of a 19-year-old male from the Roanoke Rapids area was found partially in the water at the Gaston Boat Landing.

The call initially came in as a one-vehicle crash.

The male was found to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Jacobs declined comment on where in the area the victim was shot.
