Roanoke Rapids High School 11th grader Yaqub Tawfiq was declared the winner of the sixth Annual Shaw-May Post 38 Oratorical Contest on Saturday.  

Tawfiq was presented with a $100 cash prize, first-place pendant and lanyard, certificate and presentation folder, small United States flag and a personal copy of the United States Constitution handbook.

Post 38 will sponsor Tawfiq next in the District 2 competition this coming Saturday at 10 a.m. at 717 American Legion Road.  

This event is open to the public with no charge.
