The Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District Board Tuesday named Thomas Wrenn the organization’s CEO.

Wrenn’s appointment to the RRSD’s top administrative post came after a closed session and a unanimous decision by its three-member board.

“I appreciate the opportunity and consideration from the board,” Wrenn said after the appointment. “I’m very thankful for the opportunity. I look forward to working with the board and serving the customers and citizens of the area with excellence.”

Board Chair James Kerr said of the decision, “It wasn’t a whole lot to think about. He’s highly qualified and has been with the district a long time. We have total confidence in him. He was the obvious choice.”

Wrenn’s appointment comes after longtime CEO Dan Brown submitted his resignation last month after 25 years on the job. Wrenn had been serving as interim CEO following Brown’s resignation.

In a statement the RRSD said, “Mr. Wrenn’s extensive experience, dedication to the community and proven leadership qualities position him as the ideal candidate to lead our organization forward.”

Wrenn has been with the RRSD since 2014 and has served as the organization’s finance director. “During his tenure he has consistently demonstrated commitment to the district’s financial stability and operational efficiency. His deep understanding of the organization, combined with his educational background, prepares him well for his new leadership role.”

Wrenn is an alumnus of East Carolina University, holding a bachelor in business administration and an MBA from the school.

He is a Certified Local Government Finance Officer, the district said in the statement, which showcases “his expertise in managing financial matters and ensuring fiscal responsibility within the district.”

Beyond the RRSD, he is the president-elect of the North Carolina Government Finance Officers Association — “illustrating his commitment to advancing best practices in government finance.”

A Roanoke Rapids native, he is actively engaged in the community and serves on the Halifax County Planning Board. “His deep ties to the community are evident in his passion for its well-being.”

The statement says that the board “is confident that Mr. Wrenn’s vision, experience, and community involvement will propel our organization to greater achievements. With his leadership, we anticipate continuing our mission of delivering essential services to our residents and maintaining the highest standards of excellence … We are excited about the future under his capable leadership.”
