Two Roanoke Rapids women face shoplifting and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile counts for reportedly stealing items from Walmart Thursday night while in the company of children.

Captain Bobby Martin of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department said the women allegedly stole clothing items. He said the report did not indicate the ages of the children with Ladoris Smith, 21, and Michelle Russell, 30.

Martin said in a statement officers responded to Walmart shortly after 7:15 p.m. on a shoplifting call.

Officers located the women who were allegedly placing items into backpacks to conceal them. Officers approached the women and secured the backpacks, which contained approximately $400 worth of merchandise.

The women were charged with shoplifting and the contributing counts. They were carried before a magistrate who set $500 bonds and February 25 court dates.

Lieutenant J. Baggett and officers J. Wind and H. Marshall investigated the case.
