The Weldon Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Christopher Davis:

On February 23 shortly before 2:45 p.m. Corporal H. Cross responded to a business located in the 1600 block of Julian R. Allsbrook Highway after a call that checks had been stolen by an employee.

Cross received information from the owner which aided in obtaining warrants for Ryan Deborois Garner, 31, of Roanoke Rapids.

On March 1 Garner surrendered to the Weldon Police Department and faces charges of larceny of chose in action and forgery of an instructment.

Garner received a $5,000 secured bond and March 10 district court date.

Officer I. Smith assisted.

On February 16  Officer A. Dickens responded to the 900 block of Sycamore Street after receiving a call of a breaking and entering in progress.

Dickens encountered a man who was bleeding from the head.

Dickens learned that a firearm had been stolen from the victim during the confrontation with the alleged suspect, a man Davis said was later identified as 44-year-old Alfred Edison Short of Weldon.

The victim received medical attention and Dickens drew up warrants for Short’s arrest on charges of armed robbery and damage to personal property.

Short was located on March 1 and taken before a magistrate.

He received a $35,000 secured bond and has a March 23 court date.
