The town of Weldon issued the following notice, per North Carolina General Statute 143-215.1C, which requires that the owner or operator of any wastewater collection or treatment works to issue a press release when an untreated wastewater discharge of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface water.

In accordance with that regulation, the following news release has been prepared and issued to media in the affected county:

The Town of Weldon had a discharge of untreated wastewater on January 17, 2023 through January 17, 2023 of an estimated 36,547 gallons at the Cedarwood Cemetery Outfall Line. The untreated wastewater was discharged into an unnamed creek along Highway 301 which makes its way to the Roanoke River Basin.

The Division of Water Resources was notified of the event on January 18, 2023 and is reviewing the matter.
