The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Bobby Martin:

This morning shortly after 1:30 Officer D. Harrison was in the area of West Tenth and Cedar streets when he observed a man later identified as Isaiah N. Ellis walking.

As Harrison approached Ellis to speak with him he recognized the 23-year-old Roanoke Rapids man and knew he had an outstanding warrant.

Harrison found .6 grams of fentanyl and needles on Ellis, Martin said.

He was charged with possession of schedule II, possession of drug paraphernalia and served with an outstanding warrant.

He received a $7,000 bond and August 25 court date.

On Sunday shortly after 4:15 a.m. Officer C. Roberts responded to a shots fired call at an apartment complex in the 300 block of West Fourth Street. It was also reported someone had been struck.

Roberts and Harrison spoke with a person at the apartment complex and were informed everything was OK, although the officers observed bullet holes in a window and a television inside damaged.

As the officers continued to speak with others who were in the apartment, they discovered there was 19 grams of marijuana in a Mason jar, a Taurus 9mm which was reported stolen from Raleigh, a Glock 9mm, and a blue digital scale.

The officers arrested and charged Jordan Person, 22, of the Roanoke Rapids area with possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of schedule VI, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

He received a $6,000 bond and August 19 court date.

The shooting remains under investigation, Martin said.

On Saturday shortly before 10:30 p.m. Harrison, Roberts and Lieutenant D. Jenkins were in the area of Discount Tire on Tenth Street when Harrison observed the driver of an SUV pass another vehicle in the turning lane at a high speed.

Harrison attempted to stop the vehicle and followed it until the driver, later identified as Donte Barnes, 29, of Seaboard, stopped in the area of Becker Drive and Hunting Ridge Road.

Harrison noted the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and a handgun was located under the driver’s seat.

Barnes faces charges of carrying a concealed handgun, possession of schedule VI, possession of drug paraphernalia, expired registration, and unsafe passing.

He received a $3,500 bond and September 2 court date.
