The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Lieutenant Shane Guyant:

On Saturday shortly before 10:30 a.m. Corporal C. Sherrod observed the driver of a Lexus run a stop sign at Highway 561 and Drapers Road outside Enfield.

While speaking with the driver, Jaquan Tyrell Simmons, Sherrod observed Simmons and a female passenger acting nervous and being “extremely evasive,” Guyant said.

Sherrod learned there was marijuana and a gun hidden in the car. The deputy also learned that Simmons, 26, of Enfield, was driving on a revoked license.

A probable cause search revealed a 9mm Smith & Wesson pistol in the glove box, which was reported stolen from Davidson County.

A Mason jar containing marijuana and other paraphernalia was found hidden in a black bag in the trunk.

He faces the following counts: Felony possession of a stolen firearm, felony possession of marijuana, felony maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, driving while license revoked, and failure to stop for a stop sign.

Simmons received a $10,000 bond and July 28 court date.

The passenger was released and was not charged.

On Saturday around 1 a.m. Deputy N. Estes and Sergeant D. Coley initiated a traffic stop on Roanoke Street in Scotland Neck for a vehicle without headlights on.

Estes learned Bobby Dewayne Goods, 24, of Scotland Neck, was driving on a revoked license and there were outstanding warrants for his arrest in Edgecombe County for failure to comply with a court order.

When Estes attempted to arrest the man, Goods drove off and a chase ensued. He ran several stop signs and eventually crashed into a utility pole on Church Street.

Goods exited the vehicle and fled. He was not captured.

Goods is wanted for fleeing to elude arrest and other traffic offenses.
