The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Bobby Martin:

On Monday around 1 p.m. Officer D. Harrison was on patrol in the area of West Tenth Street and Oakley Avenue when he noticed a person he knew was not licensed to drive operating a vehicle.

Harrison confirmed the driver, identified as 46-year-old Jonathan Cavanaugh, was driving on a revoked license.

Harrison deployed his dog Borys who indicated the presence of narcotics in several locations of the vehicle.

Martin said 6.66 grams of methamphetamine, 6.59 grams of fentanyl and less than a half ounce of marijuana was located under the hood in a metal container. 

Cavanaugh, of the Roanoke Rapids area, was charged with possession of schedule II, trafficking in opium or heroin, possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, possession of Schedule VI and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He  was carried before a magistrate and received a $ 30,000 bond with a Wednesday court  

Narcotics Sergeant M. Worrell, Narcotics Officer C. Batchelor, and Officer C. Roberts assisted.

 

On Monday around 7:30 p.m. Sergeant J. Horne received a call to the 500 block of Whitaker Street about a custody issue.

Officer T. Acree discovered a man identified as James Johnston, 30, at the scene and placed him under arrest on an outstanding order.

As Acree placed Johnston, of Roanoke Rapids, into custody, he discovered the man was reportedly in possession of 12.90 grams of what appeared to be methamphetamine.

Johnston was charged with felony possession of schedule I controlled substance and was served an order for arrest for felony possession of schedule I controlled substance. 

He received a $5,000 bond for the OFA and a $5,000 bond for the drug charges.
