A Roanoke Rapids woman was charged with voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of her boyfriend this morning, according to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.
Chief Bobby Martin said he could not elaborate beyond the information contained in a statement on the matter, which occurred shortly after 1 a.m. in the 300 block of Madison Street.
Martin said in the statement that officers responded after receiving a report that a man had been shot in the upper chest.
They found 19-year-old Robert Jenkins lying on the floor. He was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Martin said further investigation showed that Jenkins was shot by 22-year-old Emoni Alston, with whom he lived.
Alston received a $20,000 bond and May 26 court date.
