A Roanoke Rapids man was found deceased this morning after he was struck by a vehicle in the Gaston area.

Trooper J.T. Keeter of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said he received a call of a person who was lying by a guardrail on Highway 48 about two-tenths of a mile outside Gaston and possibly deceased.

The call came in shortly before 7 a.m. Keeter said preliminary investigation indicates that Patrick Terry Jr., 30, was possibly struck by a vehicle several hours before the call came in.

Terry was confirmed deceased at the scene after the trooper’s arrival.

It appeared that Terry was in the roadway when he was hit by a vehicle heading south into Roanoke Rapids.

A driver has been identified but their name is currently being withheld pending the trooper’s consultation with the district attorney’s office next week where possible charges will be discussed.
