As new positive cases of COVID-19 continue to decline in Halifax County, Health Director Bruce Robistow said the two primary goals now are to move the color of community spread from the red category to the yellow category and to reduce the percentage of positive cases from the current 6.8 percent to less than 5 percent.

“It is great to see the numbers continue to decline consistently,” Robistow said. “Please be reminded, however, that the decline is from extremely high numbers.”

He said while the decline is substantial, the overall numbers remain concerning. “We have added 98 new positive cases, and two more deaths just in the last week.”

Robistow said the health department continues to encourage people to get fully vaccinated and receive their booster shots. “Until we have a much larger number of citizens that are fully vaccinated and boosted, COVID will continue to mutate and a return to normal will be delayed.”

Vaccines are available at the health department and multiple sites within Halifax County.

The department is also providing two N95 masks per person per day. Visit the health department at 19 North Dobbs Street in Halifax for mask pickup.
