On Tuesday the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office sponsored the annual Shop with a Cop program where approximately 26 students from the county school system were taken to Walmart to shop for the Christmas holiday.

Northampton County school personnel, staff from the sheriff’s office, Garysburg Police Department, Northampton County manager's office, Roanoke Rapids Police Department and staff from Walmart participated.

Sheriff's office staff also joined the students at Logan's Roadhouse where they were all treated to a meal for lunch.

“It brought joy to my heart to see the smiles on the children’s faces,” Sheriff Jack Smith said. “I would like to thank all of my staff and the volunteers for their help in making this a success.”

The sheriff said it was “a great occasion to see everyone working together for our children. I would like to thank the numerous businesses and citizens throughout the county that donated to make this program a success.

“It is great to be able to help out our local children during the holiday season to put smiles on their faces. I would like to also thank Logan's Roadhouse for donating free meals to all the students. I would also like to thank Walmart for their participation in making this event a success. We look forward to having this event every year.”
