A Rocky Mount man has been arrested and charged in the shooting death of a Medoc area man who was initially reported missing by family members on Saturday.

Chief Deputy Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said around 4 p.m. today detectives arrested and charged Marquez Lyntrell Johnson, 21, on a count of murder and a count of concealment of death.

The body of the victim, 39-year-old Kelvin Richardson, was found Sunday morning in a creek off Longbridge Road in the Brinkleyville area.

Hall said this evening the relationship between Johnson and Richardson is undetermined as well as the motive in the case.

Johnson was jailed without the opportunity for bond and has a Wednesday district court appearance set.

Richardson sustained a fatal gunshot wound and investigators believe the man was placed in the water after the apparent homicide.

The sheriff’s office reported Saturday that Richardson was last seen by family Tuesday at approximately 10:30 p.m.

He was on foot in the area of Medoc Mountain Road and Highway 48 outside Enfield.

Hall said investigation continues and more arrests are pending.
