A missing person case is now being treated as a homicide investigation, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

The body of 39-year-old Kelvin Richardson was discovered around 10 this morning in the water off Longbridge Road located in the Brinkleyville area.

Chief Deputy Scott Hall said Richardson, of the Medoc area, sustained a fatal gunshot wound. He said investigators believe the man was placed in the water after the apparent homicide.

The sheriff’s office reported Saturday that Richardson was last seen by family Tuesday at approximately 10:30 p.m.

He was on foot in the area of Medoc Mountain Road and Highway 48 outside Enfield.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office at 252-583-8201 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
