A man and woman were arrested and charged with possession of stolen catalytic converters as well as methamphetamine, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Deputy Scott Hall said the investigation which led to the arrests of Samantha Ramey Drake, 31, of Emporia and Daniel Wayne Bradley, 35, of Roanoke Rapids, began after an ATV crash on January 1 around 1:30 a.m.

Drake was arrested that morning and Bradley was arrested the following day.

Lieutenant Steven Casey was in the area of American Legion Road and Highway 48 when he observed the driver of an ATV riding in the roadway.

Casey attempted to stop the ATV but the driver failed to yield.

Casey pursued the vehicle south on Highway 48 to Britt Drive where the driver crashed. Bradley and Drake fled. Drake was taken into custody a short distance from the crash and Bradley was taken into custody the next day.

Casey discovered several catalytic converters which were stolen from a nearby business, a handgun, a metal saw, and methamphetamine strapped to the ATV.

Bradley faces charges of possession of a firearm by felon, flee to elude arrest, carry a concealed weapon, and four counts of felony larceny of motor vehicle parts.

Drake was charged with four counts of felony larceny of motor vehicle parts, possession of stolen goods, and possession of methamphetamine.

Both posted bonds and have January 19 court dates.
