Response to a man passed out in a vehicle Monday led to DWI and drug charges filed by the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

Chief Bobby Martin said around 6:45 p.m. Officer J. Melvin responded to Westside Grocery and found a man, later identified as O'neil Aguilar, 29, slumped over the steering wheel while the vehicle’s engine continued running.

The officer got the man to wake and continued the investigation. The officer removed an opened beer and machete from the vehicle.

Aguilar was placed under arrest for suspicion of DWI. His license had been revoked from a previous DWI charge.

While in Halifax processing Aguilar, Melvin spoke with Sergeant Roy Ball of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office who was familiar with the man. Melvin also located cocaine and razor blades on the man.

Melvin charged Aguilar with DWI, felony possession of schedule II and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He received a $500 bond for the DWI and a $1,500 bond for the remaining charges. He has a December 13 district court date.
