Two men have been charged in a shooting this morning at Becker Drive and Old Farm Road, according to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

Chief Bobby Martin described the shooting in a statement as a drive-by in which one of the men — Eric Robinson — sustained gunshot wounds to his leg and hand. He was treated and released from Vidant North Hospital and faces charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and assault by pointing a gun.

The other man, Darrell Johnson, was charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling or vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

The men, who are both from the Roanoke Rapids area, received $50,000 secured bonds and October 28 district court dates.

Johnson was the person who Martin said earlier today called and requested an officer to come to his location where he was taken into custody by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Martin said he preferred not to discuss the reasons why Johnson placed the phone call.

The police chief said in the statement after further investigation officers determined it was necessary to charge both men.

Martin also said earlier today that the two men were apparently familiar with each other and that the shooting might be related to an argument between the two.
