The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Bobby Martin:
On Tuesday shortly before 10:45 p.m. Officer N. Powell was patrolling on Roanoke Avenue near East Sixth Street when she observed a vehicle with a registration issue.
Powell followed the vehicle and the driver, later identified as Jalen Garner, 25, ran the stop sign at Sixth and Hamilton streets and then ran the stop sign at Seventh and Jefferson streets.
Powell stopped the vehicle and noticed the odor of smoke coming from the vehicle.
Garner told the officer he didn’t have a license. Powell identified the passenger as Trevon Fleetwood, 25, of the Roanoke Rapids area.
Sergeant M. Worrell, who arrived to assist, detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A .38 revolver was located under the passenger seat and marijuana was located in the center console.
Garner was cited for no operator’s license, failing to stop for a stop sign, and simple possession of marijuana.
During the processing of Fleetwood, Detective C. Batchelor located three clear bags containing two 30-milligram Percocets, 3 grams of marijuana, and 7.5 grams of methamphetamine.
The weapon which was recovered had been entered as stolen.
Fleetwood faces charges of possession of a stolen firearm, possession of schedule I controlled substance, possession of schedule IV controlled substance, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of schedule VI, and possession of an open container.
Fleetwood received a $15,000 unsecured bond and August 13 court date.

On Wednesday shortly after 2 p.m., officers responded to the area of Jersey Mike’s on a call of a possible stolen vehicle in the area.
Officers located the vehicle at the Halifax County Visitor’s Center with one occupant inside.
The truck was confirmed stolen from the Vero Beach, Florida, area.
Joseph McGee Jr., 39, of Vero Beach, was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. He received a $20,000 secured bond and May 27 court date.
